He was born Nov. 18, 1922, in Wilkes County to the late Jessie Steve and Flora Almedia Hemric
Mr. Hemric retired with 47 years of service from Chatham Manufacturing as a chemist. He attended Yadkinville Pentecostal Holiness Church as long as his health permitted, and was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army as a Sargent. During his service he guarded several German P.O.W.’s, worked with and befriended them, enabling him to communicate using the German language.
In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Salmons Hemric on July 13, 2000; a son, Steve Harvey Hemric Jr.; a grandson, Niles Wynnter Nance; two brothers and three sisters.
He is survived by his daughter, Linda Kay Hemric of Greensboro; a son, Dave and wife Sharon Hemric of Mooresville; grandchildren, Scotty Hemric, Bracky Hemric, Sumer Nance-Geiser, Lindsay Hemric, Brittany Hemric, Matthew Hemric; great-grandchildren, Autumn Nance, Rindi Hemric, Dawson Geiser; a sister, Pauline Hemric Pardue; and two brothers, Fred Hemric, Weaver Hemric.
The family received friends Tuesday at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. His funeral service was held Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2010, in the Gentry Family Chapel by Rev. James Williams, Matthew Hemric, Sumer Nance-Geiser, and Autumn Nance. Burial followed in the Center United Methodist Church Cemetery with full military honors by Yadkin VFW Post 10346.
