A Thurmond homeowner’s surveillance camera captured images of a white male entering the homeowner’s bedroom while the victim was not at the residence, say records from the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office.
Police believe the home invasion incident occurred on Sunday between the hours of 12:30 p.m. and 4:13 p.m. The incident has been filed as a breaking and entering incident and is being actively investigated by officers.
According to the police, the emails contain photos of a dark shadowy figure that lurked into the Roaring Gap Road residence. The victim called police after she returned home and checked her email.
“That’s when she first realized she had a problem,” said Tara Grizell, spokeswoman for the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office. “Her surveillance system had sent alerts and showed detailed images. The images were from the victims bedroom.”
The victim states her doors were locked and were no signs of forced entry. The victim also stated to police that nothing appeared to be disturbed or missing.
Grizell said that having the surveillance system helps police who can compare photos of a suspect as the investigation develops. She also stated that having a home alarm service that’s tied to an alarm response service works effectively too.
John Cantion of Logitech stated that online home surveillance systems are effective to a point.
“In today’s day and age where information is almost always attached to one’s mobile phone through capabilities of checking email remotely, calling the police the moment you receive an email alert is far better compared to going home realizing you walked into a problem,” he said.
“It’s a personal decision on if an alarm response system or a surveillance alert method is best for you,” he said.
Police are not releasing the surveillance images at this time.
