Students, parents and art teachers packed the Foothills Arts Council for the Youth Art Expo on Friday night.

“In all we had 100 works of art from our after-school classes and eleven area schools,” said Leighanne Martin Wright, executive director of the Foothills Arts Council. “The Youth Art Expo will be in our gallery through March. Please stop by and see these great pieces from very hard-working and creative students.”

Students winning ribbons and prizes are: lower elementary — Rachel Winfrey (after-school art class at FAC), first; Granger Teachey (Elkin Elem.), second; Dana Patel (Rockford Elem.), third; Sophia Barron (after-school art class at FAC), honorable mention. Upper elementary — Jasmine Torres (Rockford Elem.), first; Annalise Gant (after-school art class at FAC), second; Jonathan Cortes (West Yadkin Elem.), third; Natalia Guerrero-Juarez (Rockford Elem.), honorable mention, Zach Felts (Elkin Elem.), honorable mention, Eryn Brown (after-school art class at FAC), honorable mention. Middle school — Cynthia Ramos (Starmount Middle), first; Alexandria Freeman (Central Middle), second; Kaylee Jones (Central Middle), third; Zach Carr (East Wilkes Middle), honorable mention; Julie Atkinson (East Wilkes Middle), honorable mention. High school — Daisy Sullivan (East Wilkes High), first; Hannah Barron (Elkin High), second; Cameron Spicer (East Wilkes High) third; Angel Johnson (Starmount High), honorable mention; Molly Stokes (Starmount High), honorable mention; Luke Patterson (East Wilkes High), honorable mention; and Hailey Orozco (East Wilkes High), honorable mention.

The contest was judged by Lynn Larson.

The Youth Art Expo and the art council’s after-school art classes are funded in part by the Yadkin Valley United Fund.

According to the Foothills Arts Council, a new session of art classes will begin the week of April 8. Classes offered will be Elementary Pottery on Mondays; Mirroring the Masters on Mondays; Culinary Creations of Wednesday; and Art Exploration K on Thursdays. There will also be a pottery class for teens and adults on Tuesdays from 7-8 p.m. See www.foothillsartscouncil.org for all the details.
