Insurance claims adjusters begin sifting through debris at the Jonesville house that was destroyed by a fire on Sunday.

Jonesville Police released the identity of a woman killed in a fire Sunday afternoon as Terrie Lynn Parsons, 49, of 309 East End Blvd. in Jonesville.

Her husband Michael Eugene Parsons was also injured in the fire, according to officials.

A neighbor who wished to be identified simply as “Ms. Hall” said she was the person who called 911, but that she was not aware of the flames or smoke until after they had already been burning for some time. She described the scene as very smoky and no flames visible at first. According to “Ms. Hall,” Michael Parsons was known to burn trash and items in his yard, so at first she did not realize the full extent of the nature of the smoke.

“Ms. Hall” said the smoke was blown across the yard by this weekend’s wind instead of rising into the air, causing some of her neighbors to not know a fire was occurring. She said she saw two men running across the backyard. She asked them if everything was all right, and they replied for her to call the authorities.

A man who claimed to be a witness but who chose not to be identified said Michael Parsons was burned on his hands and face from the fire, and was later transported to Winston-Salem for treatment.

According to a Jonesville Police document, Michael Parsons was charged with resist, obstruct and delay on Sunday. According to the report, Michael Parsons “pulled away” and “started a scuffle” with the officer. The witness said that Michael Parsons resisted being taken into an ambulance, and police officers had to restrain him to make him leave for medical treatment.

A press release by the Jonesville Police department identified Terrie Lynn Parsons as the victim, but also added that the cause of the fire was still under investigation.
