Elkin is holding below the national average checking in at $3.67 per gallon for unleaded.
Consumers are still fuming about the rise in gas prices.
“I just can’t seem to get ahead,” said Claire Waltmont of Elkin. “I’ve cut back on our spending elsewhere.”
Waltmont said that though she’s still able to put food on the table, it’s the sweeter things in life that have been halted.
“We’ve cut the cookies and ice cream, stripped down the dollars from snack food,” she said.
John Belrose was filling up at the Hess station on 1200 N. Bridge St. He works in gardening.
“I’m getting very worried about it. Soon enough I’m be hitting the routes with lawn mowers. Every penny counts, and I can’t raise rates on my clients,” said Belrose.
According to GasBuddy.com, Elkin is checking in just short of the national average at $3.73 per gallon. The cheapest gasoline station this week is Hess at 1200 N. Bridge Street, Hess at 626 CC Camp Road, and Shell at 631 CC Camp Road.
All listed gas stations are holding steady at $3.67 per gallon.
For several weeks running, the Citgo on Traphill Road provided the best gas price for Elkin, but this time it missed being the cheapest by a penny.
