MILLERS CREEK - The Lady Rams’ chances of pulling a huge upset in the Mountain Valley Confernece tournament opener were shot down in a hurry.

Riding three-straight strong outings into the game, which included two wins, Starmount was no match for second-seeded West Wilkes Monday night.

The Blackhawks used their size to breeze past the Rams 65-39 to advance into the conference semifinals.

West jumped out to a big 16-7 lead after one quarter of play before putting the game out of reach in the second. The ‘Hawks scored 20 points in the frame to take a commanding 36-21 advantage into halftime.

In the third, West put the finishing touches on the win, pouring in 23 points to push the lead out to 59-21. Blackhawks cruised to the 65-39 victory from there.

Bralyn Hampton paced the Rams with 12 points, while Mackenzie Hutchens added nine. Leading scorer Heaven Walters was held to just six points in what was likely her final high school game.
