The Piedmont Triad Economic Development Council (“PTEDC”) has elected Bob Leak as Chairman of the organization for a two-year term starting Jan. 1, 2013.

Leak is the President of Winston-Salem Business Inc. and a 23-year veteran of economic development in the Piedmont Triad region. Leak takes over for Terry Bralley, president of the Davie County Economic Development Commission, who chaired the group in 2011 and 2012.

Todd Tucker, President of the Surry County Economic Development Partnership, will serve as Vice-Chairman of PTEDC, and Alan Wood, Director of Stokes County Economic Development, will serve as Treasurer/Secretary.

“I look forward to working with other counties on the council and helping to promote Surry County and to make sure economic development stays in the forefront,” Tucker told the Tribune.

The PTEDC is a consortium of the economic developers from 12 Triad counties, who work together to market the Piedmont Triad region to site selection consultants and companies with expansion or relocation needs. Matt Harrington, Marketing Director of the Piedmont Triad Partnership, serves as the lead staff person for the organization.

PTEDC meets once per month.

During 2012, the PTEDC examined its program of work and made strategic changes to insure that every Triad county would see tangible results from its initiatives. Included in these changes was the creation of a pool of money to help fund individual economic development activities in each of the region’s counties. Additional activities undertaken by the PTEDC in 2012 included:

· An October luncheon for Department of Commerce representatives and brokers in the Raleigh area;

· Outreach trips to participate in trade shows and/or visit consultants in Dallas, Chicago, San Francisco and other major markets; and,

· Hosting national media representatives for a tour of life sciences assets in the region.

“I’m excited about the direction the PTEDC is headed,” Leak said. “In a time when many counties struggle to adequately fund their economic development organizations, the role that a regional marketing organization can play is critical. We’re hopeful that our efforts will pay dividends in every Triad county and help the region continue to recover from the economic downturn.”
