CARY - Starmount’s senior doubles team of Heaven Walters and Ashley Griffin were one of two Mountain Valley Conference teams to advance to the 2A Women’s Tennis State Championship Tournament last month at the Cary Tennis Center.

Walters and Griffin were one of 16 pairs to advance to the championship tournament, joining Haley Maloney and Anna Wooten from Ashe County as MVAC Representatives.

The duo dropped their opening-round match 6-2, 6-2 to eventual bronze medalists Jessica Hatch and Olivia Jackson from Greene Central.

The seniors captured a silver medal at the MVAC tennis tournament earlier in the month before finishing fourth in the Midwest Regional to earn all-region honors.
