BOONVILLE - Coming off a 1-0 loss to Elkin in the Battle of the Bridge, Starmount split a pair of conference games this past week.

The Rams dropped a 7-1 decision to Ashe County Tuesday before bouncing back with a 6-3 victory over West Wilkes Wednesday.

Against the Huskies, Juan Noveron scored the lone goal off the assist by Jonathan Catalan.

The Rams returned home on Wednesday to host West Wilkes in a conference matchup.

Catalan got things started when he scored off the Chandler Chappell assist with 23:37 remaining in the first half. Chappell was on the receiving end of a Catalan pass less than a minute later to up the Rams advantage to 2-0.

Luis Luna extended the lead to 3-0 just before the halftime whistle off the assist by David Zavaleta.

After West cut into the lead with an early second-half goal, Catalan found the back of the net again to push the lead back out to three goals.

When the Blackhawks scored again to trim the lead to 4-2, back-to-back goals by Johny Catalan and Ruben Salazar put the game away for the Rams.

With the win, Starmount improved to 4-3-1 overall on the year and 2-3 in the Mountain Valley Conference.

The Rams return to action when they travel to North Wilkes Monday for a conference macthup.

In Elkin, the 14th-ranked Buckin’ Elks blanked West Wilkes 4-0 for their second-straight MVAC shutout win.

Jesus Rivera kept the ‘Hawks scoreless, recording his fourth clean-sheet of the season to power Elkin.

The Elks improved to 5-3 on the year, including a 3-1 mark in conference play.

Elkin returns to the field Thursday night when they travel to Hays to take on North Wilkes.
