JONESVILLE - Recent Starmount graduate and Appalachian State pitcher Tyler Jackson was named to the 2012 All-Tournament Team by the Carolina-Virginia Summer Collegiate League Association last week.

Jackson has pitched for the Kernersville Bulldogs summer collegiate baseball team for the past two summers following his season with the Mountaineers.

The Jonesville resident is a senior in ASU’s bullpen. After appearing in 15 games with 13 starts as a freshman, Jackson has only appeared in seven games over the past two seasons, allowing just one hit in two relief appearances last year.

In a decorated career at Starmount, Jackson turned in two of the best pitching campaigns in state high school history in 2008 and 2009, according to Appalachian Sports Information.

As a junior, the lefty went 9-0 with a 0.96 ERA with 133 strikeouts, while posting a 8-3 mark as a senior with a 0.88 ERA and 128 strikeouts.

His best performance with the Rams was a eight-inning no-hitter against Surry Central where he struck 20 batters and walked none in the 1-0 win as a senior.

The 2009 Starmount graduate was a three-time All-Mountain Valley Conference honoree, two-time all-state nominee and took home the MVAC and Tri-County Player of the Year awards.

Jackson is the son of Sharon and Scott Jackson of Jonesville. He is majoring in nursing.
