A search warrant executed Friday has resulted in multiple drug charges for three Mount Airy residents, according to Sheriff Graham Atkinson.

Atkinson said that on Friday, deputies with the Surry County Sheriff’s Office served a search warrant on a residence located at 668 Orchard View Drive in Mount Airy in reference to drugs being in the home.

“While searching the residence, officers found marijuana growing in the yard of the residence and inside the residence officers found processed marijuana,” Atkinson said, noting that the processed marijuana amounted to “around an ounce.”

Officers on the scene also discovered several smoking pipes and both handguns and long guns in the home, according to the sheriff.

As a result, Denny Gray Burkhart, 61, with a listed address of 668 Orchard View Drive, was arrested and charged with manufacturing marijuana, maintaining a drug house, possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is being held in the Surry County Jail on $25,000 bond.

Also arrested was Debra Lynn Burkhart, 56, of the residence. She has been charged with manufacturing marijuana, maintaining a drug house, possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. She also is being held in the Surry County Jail on $25,000 bond.

The third suspect, Jeffery Dwayne Dawson, 21, also of the residence, also was arrested and charged with manufacturing marijuana, maintaining a drug house, possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is being held in the Surry County Jail on $25,000 bond.
