Bret Leslie Davis, 53, of Wake Forest, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2012, at Rex Hospital after a brief but courageous battle with esophageal cancer.
Bret was born July 9, 1959, in Marion, NC, the son of Albert Lee Davis, Jr. and Ruth Jackson Davis. The family moved from Marion to Elkin, NC where Bret graduated from Elkin High School in 1977. He graduated from Surry Community College in 1979 with a degree in business administration. In 1985, Bret was presented The Order of the Long Leaf Pine by Governor James Martin.
Bret worked for many years at the North Raleigh Hilton and was most recently employed with Chili’s in Wake Forest. He loved people and never met a stranger. He enjoyed collecting antique advertising memorabilia, but his real passion was being Hunter’s dad. His favorite pastime was watching Hunter play baseball.
Bret was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Lydia; son, Hunter; mother, Ruthie Davis of Elkin; brothers, Greg Davis of Winston-Salem and Forrest “Pete” Davis of Elkin; many special aunts, uncles, nephews, cousins, in-laws and special friend, Eddie Walts.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to their friends, Whippoorwill neighbors, Chili’s Wake Forest, Fitzsimmons Lawn Service, Dr. Nirar Dhruva, Dr. Robert Wehbie, the staff and nurses of Rex Wakefield Cancer Center, Rex Radiology Dept. and 5-East at Rex Hospital for their care and encouragement.
A memorial service will be held a 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors 2 hours prior to the service. Following the service, the family will receive friends at the home.
