The Girl Scout Hut on Memorial Park Drive in Elkin is receiving renovations thanks to the Yadkin Valley United Fund.

“The building has fallen into disrepair and we wanted to help out,” said Missy Loving of the Yadkin Valley United Fund.

The United Fund made a one time donation of $2,500 to help with repairs and maintenance on the building.

“The town owns the building and has been working hard to work on the repairs,” said Girl Scout troop treasurer Christie Harrison. “There have been people working all week on roof repairs.”

Elkin’s Girl Scout Hut is one of two huts in the state of North Carolina. Some of the repairs the building needed include roof and plumbing repairs.

The United Fund presented a check to the Girl Scouts on Saturday during a benefit being held to raise money for the hut and the troop.
