For 21 years, supporters of Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital (HCMH) have been teeing off to raise money for the hospital.

“When we first did it, we did the awards on the front porch of the old Cedarbrook Club House,” said director of the HCMH Foundation, Jeannette Hendrick. “It was only a half a day tournament and everyone loved it. We changed it to a full day tournament and it has been popular ever since.”

The golf tournament will be on Thursday, Aug. 16, starting at 8 a.m. and will be broken into a morning and afternoon tournament. Prizes will be given out at the end of each tournament.

“The money raised in our very first tournament went to oncology,” Hendrick said. “The money we are raising this year is will continue to go towards the capitol campaign for the new addition. We raised roughly $40,000 last year.”

Teams are made up of four players. Three levels of prizes will be given to the winning teams as well as for skills such as hole and ones made and longest putt, Hendrick said.

“During the tournament breakfast, lunch and dinner are served,” she said. “It’s always a long day but a great day.”

In addition to the golf tournament, the hospital is raising money through a golf raffle. Raffle tickets are $2 per ticket and $5 for three and are sold at the hospital switch desk.

Prizes are:

1st Prize - Bubba Long Pink Driver

2nd Prize - Weber Gas Grill Genesis

3rd Prize - HP HD 1080P Camcorder

4th Prize - Blu-Ray Player

“We always end up having a fifth or sixth raffle prize as well because so many people want to help out,” Hendrick said.
