Elkin Recreation Dept. releases summer events

ELKIN - The Elkin Recreation and Parks Department released three end-of-the-summer events Monday.

Headlining the release is a one-day youth basketball clinic hosted by former North Wilkes standout Ty Johnson on July 28 from 9 a.m. to noon. Johnson plays at collegiate level at Warren Wilson College near Asheville.

The clinic is for 3rd-12th graders and will cost $20 per participant.

Youth registration for fall baseball and soccer has also opened at the recreation department

Fall baseball eligibility is for players ages 9-12, with age as of April 30, 2013. The cost is $35 for Elkin residents and $50 for non-residents.

Fall soccer eligibility is for players ages 3-13, with age as of July 31, 2012. The cost is $35 for Elkin residents and $50 for non-residents.

Registration for both sports ends August 17.
