Sandy Kay Sale Wright
Sandy Kay Sale Wright “Sandy”, of N. Wilkesboro and Atlantic Beach, NC died July 15, 2012, from cancer.
She was born August 11, 1944, to George and Hazel Key Sale of Elkin, NC where she also attended Elkin High School.
During her college years at Women’s College of Greensboro, now UNC-Greensboro, she met Harold Wright at Jack’s Drive-In in N. Wilkesboro; starting a relationship that would span the next 5 decades. On October 3, 1964, Harold and Sandy married at Elkin Baptist Church. Sandy had a career of 14 years at Northwestern Bank and 18 years at Golden Needles Knitting & Glove. During those years she had two sons, Harold Wright, Jr. (Wen) and Steuart Wright. Sandy was outgoing with a strong love for family.
Her grandchildren loved her butterfly kisses and playing games with their Nana, especially long “war” card tournaments. She had a flair for decorating gorgeous Christmas trees, cross-stitching stockings for the grandchildren, seashell hunting, homecooking, and making birthdays special. She loved watching the grandkids chase seagulls, listening to Neil Diamond and petting her shih tzu, Millie.
She is survived by her husband, Harold Owen Wright of Atlantic Beach, NC, her two sons, Harold Owen, Jr. (Wen) and his wife Kim Drew Wright and their children Ian, 12, Kaelin, 9, and Elliott, 5, all of Richmond, VA, and Steuart Key and his wife, Nikki Vannoy Wright and their children Madison, 6, Cameron, 1, and a boy due in November, all of Wilkesboro. Sandy is predeceased by her sister, Barbara Jean Sale Mathis, who married Jimmy Mathis and had two children, Dale and Angela Mathis, and 3 grandsons, all of Winston-Salem.
A service will be held Saturday, July 21, 2012, at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 401 Sixth Street, North Wilkesboro, with the family receiving in the fellowship hall immediately following.
