Ruth B. Burgess was granted her angel wings on June 24, 2012.

She was born on July 25, 1921, and lived a full and vibrant life for over 90 years.

Her life began in Wadesboro, N.C. where she was born to Blanche Boulware. Later the family moved to Winston-Salem N.C. where Ruth lost her mother and was charged with taking care of her little brother at a young age. Ruth was married to Samuel J. Burgess and later moved to Jonesville, NC where she raised her family and began to build enduring relationships in the community. Throughout her life, she exemplified a strong work ethic, commitment to family and helping others, and an unwavering belief in honesty. She was truly a woman of integrity!

Ruth “Goonie” Burgess was a faithful member of Anna Jarvis United Methodist Church in Jonesville. Mrs. Burgess dedicated many years of her life employed in the medical housekeeping industry at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital and Elkin Health Care, actively until the age of 88. She loved reading the daily newspaper, watching “public television”, and socializing with family and friends.

Ruth is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, her brother, Prince Edward Boulware; her aunts, uncles, and a granddaughter, Michelle Edwards and two sons-in-law Ollie Gray Porter and Michael Davis. She leaves to celebrate her life four children: Rudie Lamar Boulware and Cathalean, and daughters Susan Porter, Gail Davidson, and Dora Maxine Davis. Additionally, Ruth was blessed with nine grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services service will be held on Saturday, June 30, 2012, at 1:30 p.m. at Jonesville First United Methodist Church in Jonesville, and burial will follow in the Crestwood Memorial Gardens, State Road, NC. Family will receive friends from 1:00 until 1:30 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Mrs. Ruth Burgess will be placed in the church prior to the viewing at 12:00 noon for the pubic to view.
