Former Rams chosen for American Legion All-Star Game

BOONVILLE - Awards and recognition continue to pour in for two former Starmount ballplayers.
Dillon Dobson and Alex Barr, who graduated earlier this month, were named to the American Legion All-Star Showcase Team Wednesday. The game is set to take place Saturday at Catawba College in Salisbury.
The duo play for Wilkes County Post 31, coached by Wilkes Central head baseball coach Terry Johnson, with other players around Wilkes County and the Yadkin Valley.
Dobson suits up at shortstop for the Patriots, while Barr is primarily used as a starting pitcher, but has seen action in the outfield. Both are standouts in the middle of Wilkes’ lineup.
American Legion teammate Alex Minton (West Wilkes) was also named to the team.
After starring for the Rams for four seasons, the duo also teamed up together at the Powerade State Games of North Carolina June 13 as members of the West squad.
Another Ram alumnus Dillon Bray was forced to sit out the remainder of the American Legion season with an arm injury.
All three ballplayers will play at the collegiate level next spring. Dobson inked with Appalachian State, while Bray will play at rival Western Carolina. Barr, who originally signed with ASU, will suit up for Catawba Valley Community College after a knee injury forced him to sit out most of his senior season.
