Jonesville Historical Society is sponsoring a celebratory canoe and kayak trip down the Yadkin River on July 4.

The Freedom Float will start at Ronda Park at 8:30 a.m. and will end at the dock at Crater Park in Elkin.

There is no charge for people who own their own canoe or kayak and want to participate. The rental rate is $45 for three people in one canoe with two paddles and three adult life vests. Children’s vests/jackets are not provided.

This year will be the second annual Freedom Float.

“In working with the Downtown Elkin group, the idea came about,” said July Wolf, Jonesville Historical Society chair. “We wanted activities that would incorporate the two communities and also promote the river. We encourage all of our participants to go on over to Elkin for their celebrations.”

The Historical Society requests release forms to be filled our prior to the event, but applications will also be on-site to fill out before the float. Applications can be found on Jonesville Historical Society’s website, www.jonesvillenc.org.
