Input sought on proposed ECS 2009-2010 calendar
Special to The Tribune
Elkin City Schools
The ECS calendar committee has developed a calendar for the 2009-2010 school year.
The calendar committee consists of teachers, staff, parents, and community business persons who represent the three schools in the development of the school calendar.
Participants bring their thoughts and ideas from their colleagues at the different school levels and are asked to share their input on the development process.
The initial meeting was held in December 2008, as the committee was divided into three groups consisting of representatives from each school. Each group developed a calendar cumulative of their ideas and suggestions and based on various perspectives.
The three calendars were presented and discussed by the group. The calendar committee members were then asked to take the three calendars to their colleagues, friends, and families to discuss which calendar would best meet the needs of the entire school community.
In January 2009, the calendar committee met and discussed any new feedback in regard to the three school calendars. A calendar matrix was distributed which highlighted the differences and similarities of the three calendars.
The calendar committee then developed a fourth calendar which was a collective integration of the three calendars. The calendar committee came to agreement on the dates which were in conflict and, additionally a consensus had to be reached in order for the calendar-building process to continue.
This calendar represents the work of 30 individuals who made up this years calendar committee. The Elkin City Schools Board of Education had its first reading of the 2009-2010 calendar draft on January 26, with a second reading and adoption to occur on Feb. 23.
Any ideas, suggestions or comments may be directed to the principals at each of the Elkin City Schools.
The principals will present any suggested changes at a Feb. 10 calendar committee meeting at the Central Office.
The committee will make possible changes and final recommendations for the superintendent and Board of Education.
