Jonesville Elementary School Principal Christine Bryant and guidance counselor Beth Payne were able to get one last treat before retiring.
Bus drivers Margie Hensley, Johnny Burton, and Ralph Casstevens treated the two to a commemorative breakfast at Cracker Barrel Friday morning.
Bryant announced her retirement this year after being with Jonesville Elementary School for 11 years, five of those as a teacher and six in administration.
Bryant, who has lived in Jonesville her entire life and attended Jonesville Elementary School, plans on staying in the area. “I’m just looking forward to spending time with my family, enjoy my grandkids, relaxing and taking trips that I’ve never been able to,” she said.
Payne will also be leaving Jonesville Elementary School after serving as guidance counselor for four years. She will be relocating to Elkin Elementary School, replacing Ginger Isenhoward.
“My daughter is starting kindergarten at Elkin, so I wanted to be on the same school calendar as her,” Payne said. “It was hard leaving, but sometimes you’ve got to do what is best for your family.”
Bryant and Payne were both very appreciative of the bus drivers organizing a special breakfast in their honor, as well as their service to the school.
“They’ve been great,” Bryant said. “They have a hard job; driving the buses and trying to discipline the kids at the same time.”
Hensley, who organized the breakfast, had nothing but words of praise for her co-workers. “We just decided that because (Bryant) was retiring and (Payne) was leaving, they deserved something nice,” Hensley said.
“It’s just typical for Jonesville,” Payne said. “Everyone’s always appreciating each other.”
