More than $3,000 was raised for March of Dimes on Wednesday when five members of the community were “arrested.”

Elkin Mayor Lestine Hutchens, Fairfield Inn General Manager Michael Wilson, Nathan Lewis of Philip Van Huesen, Misty Matthews of the Yadkin Valley Chamber of Commerce and Jerry Stroud of Duke Energy were arrested and locked up at the Fairfield Inn. They’re weren’t limited to one call. Actually, they were given unlimited phone calls for donations from the community.

“We are excited to be taking part of March of Dimes and think it’s a great cause,” said Fairfield Inn Director of Sales Casey Waddell.

Each person arrested set a goal of money to raise, and Hutchens met her goal first.

“The mission is all about raising money for healthy babies,” said March of Dimes Director Debbi Patterson.

The March of Dimes will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 14, at Elkin Municipal Park.

For more information call Debbi Paterson at 336-723-4386. To register a team of walkers, visit www.marchforbabies.org.
