Plums will be selling Elkin football t-shirts for the 2011 season. Shirt cost $14 and proceeds go to feeding the team during their pregame meals. For more information, call 526-8999.
Elkin Rec. Center to hold volleyball clinic
Elkin Recreation and Parks is offering a girls volleyball clinic on Tuesday evenings from 6:15 -7:30 p.m. for girls 7-13 years old. The program will be held on Tuesdays beginning Aug. 23, and will run through early October. Keith Briand will be the instructor. The cost is $4 per class. All classes will be held at the Elkin Recreation Center.
Phil Ford basketball camp
Former Tarheel Phil Ford will be conducting a fundamentals basketball camp with North Wilkes Basketball Coaches Marty Behrens and Kenneth Davis. The camp will be held at North Wilkes high school from Sept. 3-5.
The first 200 paid applications received will be guaranteed a spot in the camp. The cost is $100 and each camper will receive a t-shirt and a UNC hat signed by Ford.
The camp is open to anyone in 3rd-8th grades.

Season opener football games
The football season officially kicks off on Friday night for area schools. Elkin will host East Montgomery, Starmount will travel to Mount Airy, East Wilkes will host West Davdison, and Forbush will host North Surry.
