Mr. Quincy "Bud" Edward Byrd, loving husband and father, age 76, of 204 N. Jonesville Blvd., Jonesville, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2008 at his residence.

Mr. Byrd was born in Yadkin County on March 7, 1932 to the late Robert W. Byrd and Cora Shaffner Byrd.

He graduated from Jonesville High School and Surry Community College, and was a veteran of the United States Army.

He retired from G & B Oil Company after 40 years of service and was a Jonesville town commissioner for 21 years; Mayor pro-tem; and a past member of the Kiwanis Club.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Jean Royall; and two brothers, Leroy and Robert Wayne Byrd.

He is survived by his wife of the home, Nancy Masten Byrd; a daughter and son-in-law, Teresa Byrd Fowler and husband Mark of Kernersville; a brother, the Rev. Bill Byrd and wife Peggy of Jonesville; his little dog, Sissy Byrd of the home; a brother-in-law, Edwin Royall of Elkin; and many nieces, nephews, and loving friends.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 18 at Arlington First Baptist Church by the Rev. Jerry Fugate and the Rev. Kevin Wilson.

Visitation will follow after the memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Arlington First Baptist Church, or to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 688 N. Bridge St. Elkin, NC 28621.
