Mr. Evans worked as a farmer but was well known and loved in the community for his handy work with plumbing and heating. He was a member of Island Ford Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his infant brother, William Ralph Evans. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Shirley S. Evans, of the home; two children, Carlene Evans (Charles) Cheek, Longtown and Garry Dean (Lora) Evans, Hamptonville; four grandchildren, Miranda C. (Brian) Laws, Candace C. (Damon) Groce, Rebecca Evans, Aaron Evans; a sister, Bonnie Evans (Don) Reece, Kings Mountain; a niece, Deborah Payne and great-nephew, Daniel Payne.
His funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Island Ford Baptist Church by Preacher Conard Hatfield and the Rev. Spencer King. He will lie instate 30 minutes prior to the service.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Gentry Family Funeral Service on Little Mountain Road in Jonesville. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Island Ford Baptist Church, Hwy 67, Jonesville, NC 28642.
