Bobby Eugene Sides Sr., 66, of Davidson, passed away Nov. 1, 2007, at Carolinas Medical Center in Concord after a sudden illness. He was born on Aug. 26, 1941, in Iredell Co. to the late Elmer and Geneva Doss Sides. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa Warlick.

Mr. Sides retired after many years of dedicated work at Vaughn-Bassett Furniture in Elkin. He enjoyed time with his family, church and all activities related to racing. Mr. Sides will truly be missed. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy where he was an aviation mechanic. His family wants everyone that knew him to not cry but worship for he has reached the streets of gold and hopes to see you there with him one day.

Survivors include his wife of 16 years, Debra Spicer Sides; two sons, Booby Eugene Sides Jr. and his wife, Beth, of Mooresville and Elmer Dwayne Sides and wife, Jennifer, of Mooresville; two daughters, Shelly Childress of Kannapolis and Jennifer Childress of Davidson; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

His funeral services were held at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel in Kannapolis on Monday, Nov. 5, at 11 a.m., and officiated by the Rev. Bruce High, the Rev. Raymond Davis and the Rev. Jeff Upright. Interment followed in National Cemetery in Salisbury with military rites conducted by the Rowan Co. Veterans Honor Guard. The family received friends Sunday evening at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sides family for payment of funeral expenses at Whitley's Funeral Home, 1748 Dale Earnhardt Blvd., Kannapolis, NC 28083.
