Students receive Armfield scholarships


Elkin High School had eight recipients of the Armfield Scholarship award. Armfield Scholarship winners included Carrie Brown-UNC Charlotte; Adam Caudill–Auburn University; Laura Holloway–Winston-Salem State University; Aspen Jackson–UNC Chapel Hill; Hannah Pittman-East Carolina University; Noah Smith–Western Carolina University; Joshua Strickland–UNC Chapel Hill; and Gillian White–UNC Chapel Hill.

DOBSON — The Edward M. Armfield Sr. Foundation Scholarship Awards Ceremony was held on May 19 at Surry Community College. Since its inception in 1999, the Edward M. Armfield Sr. Foundation has awarded scholarships to deserving students graduating from public high schools in Surry County.

Each year, scholarships are awarded at each of the five Surry County high schools to students who will be attending four-year colleges and universities or Surry Community College, and to students at Surry Community College who will be transferring to a four-year college or university to complete their undergraduate degree. Scholarships range from up to $3,600 per year to up to $12,000 per year, and are renewable for an additional year for students attending or transferring from Surry Community College and for an additional three years for students attending four-year colleges and universities.
