Elkin man charged with child sex abuse

On Oct. 12, the Elkin Police Department received a report of child sexual abuse. A family member reported concerns that a child was being sexually abused by Ronald Alexander Winters Jr., 35, of Elkin.

During the investigation, detectives with the Elkin and Jonesville police departments discovered evidence that sustained the allegations of child sexual abuse.

Winters was later arrested and charged by Elkin Police Department with two counts each of incest with a child, indecent liberties with a child and statutory rape of a child. Jonesville Police Department charges include incest with a child, crime against nature, first-degree rape and indecent liberties with a child.

Winters is being held in the Surry County Jail under a $250,000 secured bond.
