DENVER — East Wilkes had four players reach double-figures Tuesday, but it would not be enough to pull off the upset against second-seeded Lincoln Charter, falling 88-60.
Lincoln Charter freshman Lavontae Knox poured in 25 points on a perfect 11-for-11 shooting from the field and sophomore Kody Shubert scored 16 points and dished out 11 assists to help lead the Eagles to the second round of the state playoffs.
Trey Johnsen filled up the stat sheet with 11 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and five steals. Logan Foster added 15 points and Jehlon Johnson chipped in six points to go with a team-high 11 boards.
For East Wilkes, senior Andrew Nance led the way with 17 points and four assists. Shareef Ray dropped in 15 points and grabbed nine boards, Joah Logan scored 11 points and big man Camon Bryan notched a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Trey Blevins, Bryce Vestal and Bradley Hicks each scored two points to round out the Cardinal scoring.
The Cardinals finished the 2015-16 season at 9-17 overall.
Lincoln Charter improved to 26-3 and will host Pine Lake Prep in the second round of the NCHSAA 1A state playoffs.
