The trends continued for the Elkin boys and girls basketball programs, and while that’s good for one, it’s not as good for the other.
The Elkin girls defeated West Stokes Tuesday night 61-24, then followed that up with a 61-28 win over Ashe County in their first conference match of the season. The wins keep them undefeated six games into the season.
The Lady Elks made a statement early on into Tuesday night’s game, outscoring West Stokes 24-4 in the first quarter. Wednesday night it was the third quarter, where the Lady Elks began to really pull away. Up 31-18 at the half, the Lady Elks outscored the Huskies 19-0.
Meanwhile, the boys continued to struggle, falling 67-25 to West Stokes Tuesday night before losing 85-32 to conference-rival Ashe County. The team is now winless through the first six games, losing each game by double-digits. The boys will be looking to rebound, literally, before the string of consecutive conference games. Elkin allowed 22 rebounds, 12 of them being defensively.
Both teams host Surry Central Friday night for a non-conference match. It’s one of three non-conference games for them from here on out in the regular season.
