Elkin’s Tyler Sanborn has been elected into the Surry County Sports Hall Of Fame, and while he’s young, the 2006 Elkin graduate made a name for himself on the basketball court, and continues to do that to this day.
Following Sanborn’s graduation, he studied at Guilford College and also played basketball. During his time there, Sanborn had over 1000 points and rebounds, and ranked as one of the scoring leaders, fourth in rebounds, and third in blocks in school history. His senior year, Sanborn was named the Division III National Player of the Year, and was named Guilford’s Most Improved Player three straight seasons.
In 2010, Sanborn was invited to play in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas for the Lakers, and was offered a position on their Development League team, but opted to pursue opportunities overseas.
Currently, Sanborn is an Assistant Coach and Hampden-Sydney College , and assists in summer camps at many schools across the Mid-Atlantic.
His dedication to leading by example has earned him a spot on the Surry County Sports Hall of Fame, and he’s not even 30 yet. Where he goes from here is yet to be determined, but it seems that Sanborn has a bright future ahead of him.
