CONCORD — While Friendship Motor Speedway concluded its season Saturday night, that doesn’t mean its fans won’t be at a dirt track this weekend, cheering for someone who was once an underdog.
Mount Holly’s Chris Ferguson will compete in the Bad Boy Buggies World of Outlaws World Finals at The Dirt Track at Charlotte starting on Thursday. The three-day event will feature all forms of racing, from the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series, the World of Outlaws Late Model Series and the Big-Block Modifieds of the Super DIRTcar Series.
Ferguson, 25, has competed in the Late Model Series all season, and Friendship Motor Speedway will always hold a special spot for him. Earlier in May, Ferguson earned his first career World of Outlaws Series win at the dirt track. It was a night where he entered as a huge underdog and came out victorious.
Ferguson went on to win the following race at Fayetteville, and without a doubt, race fans know his name now. Despite his youth, Ferguson is a selfless individual, who raised funds at Friendship Motor Speedway during Fan Appreciation Day to help a family in Honduras, and followed that up with giving one of his winning trophies away to a young fan.
