Elkin High School features the girls tennis Player of the Year, and to nobody’s surprise, she, along with her partner, are set to compete for a championship.

Seniors Miracle Walters and Morgan Randleman won two matches on Friday during regionals, qualifying them for the state championship at Cary Tennis Park in Cary this Friday.

Walters, already named Athlete of the Week in The Tribune earlier this year, was named Player of the Year and also to the All-Conference team. Throughout the season in individuals and doubles, she maintained an undefeated record as did her team.

In the meantime, the Dual Team Tennis tournament already has begun, and thanks to Elkin’s (15-0) record, they earned a bye to round two. They’ve got a seemingly tough task ahead of them on Tuesday as they host No. 2 Mount Airy (21-2). Mount Airy defeated North Stanly 8-1 last Tuesday to advance to the second round.

The winner of that match will face the winner of the East Surry/Chatham Charter match next Monday for a spot in the regional round.

East Wilkes found no such luck in either Dual Team or Individuals, as the MVAC Conference Champion Amber Parks was unable to move onto the next round. Against Bishop McGuinness, the Cardinals fell 5-1 in the first round.

More information regarding the tournament will be posted online at elkintribune.com when available.
