One East Wilkes golfer is set to compete for a state championship on Monday and Tuesday.
Sophomore Hunter Tharpe punched her ticket to Southern Pines last Monday, and will be competing in the 1A/2A state tournament at Longleaf Golf and Country Club. Tharpe had to rebound after struggling midway through the round, shooting a 107 to finish tied for 20th at the Cross Creek Country Club in Mount Airy.
It’s Tharpe’s second straight trip to the state championship. Last year, Tharpe shot a 115 which was good for a tie for 57th. She’ll be looking to improve on that.
Tharpe is scheduled for an 11 a.m. tee time on Monday.
