As conference play came to a close Monday, the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference golf teams gathered together for one final match on Tuesday at the Cedarbrook Invitational.

East Wilkes and Alleghany finished up tied with a 177 total. Each school’s highest score was dropped based on how many players each team had participating. Elkin’s Palmer Duncan shot the low round of the day, a 52, but as the team’s only golfer of the day, they were not eligible for placement. Duncan will play in the upcoming regional tournament.

In Monday’s conference championship, East Wilkes came up just short of the win, but one bright side came from junior Hunter Tharpe. Tharpe’s 49 on the day tied her own school record for the lowest score in a conference match. Tharpe opted not to play as she prepares for the 1A/2A Central Regional at Cross Creek Country Club in Mount Airy on Oct. 19.

RESULTS

1 Alleghany 177 177

1 East Wilkes 242 177
