Andrea Raines from Starmount High School recently hosted a photography contest for the student body. This was a special art contest as it only consisted of photos from Yadkin County.
This photography contest was very interesting and different indeed, as the results showcased the beauty of Yadkin’s landscape as well as daily life here in the foothills. Raines acknowledged, “As far as I knew, we hadn’t done anything like that before. I know there are a lot of hidden talents that don’t have a chance to come out in regular classes.” She also wanted to see a student perspective of Yadkin County.
She had eight judges to look at submissions and to pick which one truly encompassed the Yadkin County spirit. Out of 15 competitors, the first place winner of this contest was Brittany Brown, a junior at Starmount; second place went to Ashley Johnson, a graduating senior; and third was Shea Triplett, a sophomore. Chloe Gordy, also a graduating senior of Starmount, received honorable mention.
“I would love to think that this contest has encouraged artists who aren’t able to draw or paint but can find beauty around them anyway,” said Raines after seeing the impressive outcome.
There is definitely going to be another photography contest or something similar in the future here at Starmount High School.
