DOBSON — The Surry Community College volleyball team recently hosted its seventh annual All Skills Volleyball Camp. The camp was held in the campus gym and consisted of two separate sessions over a four-day period. The Lady Knights worked with a total of 53 campers of various ages on serving, passing, spiking, digging and other skills during the camp.
“The camp was a great way for the younger kids to learn a new sport and a chance for girls who have played and have volleyball experience to improve from day one to day four,” said Surry Head Volleyball Coach Jan Marion-Kiser. “This was also a great team bonding experience for the players here at SCC; they are the camp instructors and this helps them bond as a team. It was a lot of fun, and the girls enjoyed helping these kids learn the game that they continue to play.”
At the conclusion of the camp, several door prizes and awards were presented along with all participants receiving a camp shirt.
The Lady Knights are coming off a 25-9 season in 2015. Surry will open up the 2016 volleyball season on Aug. 26 at the Catawba Valley Community College Extravaganza in Hickory against Bryant Stratton College at 4:30 p.m. and Wake Technical Community College at 6 p.m.
