PAC swimmers medal at State Games

RALEIGH — Swimmers from the North Piedmont Aquatic Club (PAC) competed in the 29th annual Powerade State Games of North Carolina this past weekend at the Pullen Aquatic Center. In all, members of PAC took home 51 medals including 13 gold medals in the long course event.

“We had some great swims at the State Games meet,” said PAC Coach Leah Tunstall. “It’s always great to see so many swimmers on the medal stand.”

In the 13-14 year old girls division, PAC’s Julie Hicks earned silver medals in the 100 and 200 meter backstroke, 100 meter freestyle, and 200 meter individual medley while collecting a bronze medal in the 50, 200, and 400 meter freestyle events. Gracie Pruitt earned a gold medal in the 200 meter breaststroke and silver medal in the 100 meter breaststroke. Avery Tucker finished with silver medals in the 50 meter freestyle and 100 meter butterfly while also earning a bronze medal in the 100 meter freestyle, 100 and 200 meter backstroke, and 200 meter individual medley. Hadly Tucker took the gold medal in the 100 meter breaststroke and collected a silver medal in the 200 meter breaststroke.

For the 15-16 year old women’s division, Sydney Beck finished with a gold medal in the 100 meter backstroke while claiming a silver medal in the 100 meter butterfly and 200 meter backstroke. Beck also took bronze in the 50 and 100 meter freestyle events. Teammate, Destini Hudson claimed bronze medals in the 100 and 200 meter backstroke along with the 100 meter breaststroke.

In the 15-16 year old men’s division, PAC’s Alex Duncan earned a gold medal in the 100 meter breaststroke and 200 meter individual medley. Duncan also collected silver medals in the 50 and 100 meter freestyle, 100 meter backstroke, and 100 meter butterfly. Nolan Gilliam took the gold medal in the 200 meter breaststroke while earning a silver medal in the 100 meter breaststroke and 200 meter individual medley.

For the 17-18-year old women’s division, Kelsey Tunstall claimed gold medals in the 50, 100 and 200 meter freestyle, 100 and 200 meter backstroke, 100 meter butterfly, and 200 meter individual medley. Ashley Hicks captured silver medals in the 50, 100, and 200 meter freestyle, 100 and 200 meter backstroke, 100 meter butterfly, and 200 meter individual medley. PAC’s Katelyn Southard earned bronze medals in the 100 meter butterfly as well as the 100 and 200 meter breaststroke events.

PAC’s Abby Bruce and Carly Bullington posted top 20 finishes in a combined 11 different events.

“Attending the State Games meet has become a tradition for our team,” added Tunstall. “We look forward to this meet every year.”
