Powerade Baseball Results

CARY — The 2016 Powerade baseball games have come to a close, and Region 7 is coming home with the silver medal.

After winning 10-1 on Thursday over Region 8, Region 7 went on to beat Region 2 on Friday, and Region 1 on Saturday. The championship game was played on Sunday with Region 7 facing Region 6.

The championship game was scoreless until the fifth inning when South Point’s Timothy Davila hit a double to right field. From there Region 6 took control of the game and came away with a 3-0 win and the gold medal.

Forbush players Tyler Campbell, Jamie Sheek and Carter Foster were part of the Region 7 roster, along with Elkin’s Hayden Brooks and East Wilkes’ Bryce Vestal. The State Games gave all five athletes a chance to show off their skills on the diamond.

Notable state game alumni are Madison Bumgarner, the 2014 World Series MVP; and Josh Hamilton, the 2010 American League MVP. The 2017-2018 State Games will be played in the Triad area, and the 2019-2020 games will be played in Charlotte.
