The 2016 All-District teams for District 7 was released last week by the NC Softball Coaches Association.

East Wilkes had three players make the 1A team — Olivia Bullard, Caitlyn Macemore and Lauren Rakes were voted All-District. Bullard was voted the 1A Player of the Year for the second year in a row. Macemore, the Cardinals catcher, earned five homeruns this season. Rakes, the Cardinals pitcher, was one of five freshmen to be named All-District.

The Cardinals ended their 2016 season with a 14-14 overall record, and a 9-5 conference record. They made it to the second round before falling to Chatham Central, 3-2.

On the 2A side, there was no shortage of Forbush players on the 2A District 7 team. Marissa Lineberry, Allison Mitchell, Kelsey Swaim, Taylor Wooten, Sydney Miller and Logan Wood were voted on to the 2A team. Not only did Forbush have seven players make the team, it also had the 2A player of the year, Allison Mitchell, and the 2A pitcher of the year, Sydney Miller.

Forbush had a great 2016 season as the Lady Falcons made it to the 2A Western Finals before falling to West Lincoln. During the finals, Mitchell and Miller had several outstanding plays. During the first of three games, Mitchell laid out to make a great play at third to stop West Lincoln from tying the game. Miller also had an outstanding game as she had several strikeouts for Forbush.

Over the course of the 2016 season, Miller, Mitchell and the rest of the Falcons came togehter to be a driving force for the 2A playoffs and regular season.
