2016 Powerade Games

CARY — The 2016 Powerade Games are set to begin this week as baseball kicks off this weekend, with softball and soccer starting next week. Several local athletes have made the State games in the past, and this year is no different.

Soccer: For the 2016 Midwest boy’s soccer team, two local athletes are on the roster — Saul Zamora from Forbush and Solomon Maya from Starmount. Forbush men’s soccer head coach, Seth Davis, will be an assistant coach for the Midwest Region. The soccer games will take place June 24 through June 26 at WRAL Soccer Park in Cary.

Softball: The Region 7 softball roster has yet to be released, but the schedule is already in place. The softball games are round robin, with each team guaranteed three games. On June 21, Region 7 will play at 11 a.m. and 3:50 p.m. On June 22, Region 7 will play at 9 a.m. with the Bronze, Silver, and Gold games taking place at 5:15 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The games will take place at Middle Creek Park and NC State University.

Baseball: The Powerade games for baseball kicked off on Thursday with Region 7 playing at 10 a.m. On June 17, Region 7 will play at 6:30 p.m., and they will play again June 18 at 1 p.m. The Bronze, Silver, and Gold games will take place on June 19, with games starting at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Forbush athletes Tyler Campbell and Jamie Sheek, Elkin athlete Hayden Brooks, and East Wilkes athlete Bryce Vestal will all be playing for Region 7.

2016 East vs. West All Star Soccer Game

GREENSBORO — The 2016 East and West All Star roster for women’s soccer has been released and one local athlete is on the roster. Forbush senior Paige Keaton will help represent the West team this year.

Keaton had an outstanding senior season at Forbush, as she helped lead her team to the 2A State Championship for the second time in a row. Keaton won’t be the only one representing Forbush, as Falcons head coach, Kenan James, will be the head coach for the West Region. The game will take place on July 19 at 6:30 p.m. at McPherson Stadium at the Bryan Park Soccer Complex in Greensboro.
