The third round of softball, soccer, and tennis high school playoffs kicked off this week. With only five local teams who were left in the playoff chase — Elkin tennis, Elkin softball, Forbush soccer, Forbush softball, and Starmount soccer — the teams battled to find their way to the fourth round.
Results from this week’s games are as follows.
Forbush vs. East Davidson — The Falcons continue their winning ways as they beat the Eagles 2-0 on Wednesday night. Forbush will move on to the fourth round where they will face West Wilkes.
Elkin vs. North Stokes — The Elkin Buckin’ Elks softball team ended its playoff run on Tuesday night with a 12-2 loss to North Stokes. The Elks ended their season with a 16-8 overall record, and a 10-4 conference record.
Forbush vs. Franklin — The Falcons beat Franklin 2-0 on Wednesday night. Madison York and Olivia Davis each had a goal for the Falcons. York opened the scoring in the second minute of the first half as she took a penalty kick for the Falcons after a handball was called in the box. In the second half, Davis scored the second goal for Forbush as she found herself wide open at the top of the 18. Davis wasted no time getting set for the shot, as she sent the ball into the back of the net with her left foot to give the Falcons a 2-0 lead.
“We dominated possession, and I think we created a lot of chances,” said Coach Kenan James after the game. “We’re a little impatient on the ball, but other than that it was a great game.”
Starmount vs. Bishop — Starmount soccer ended its playoff run on Tuesday night with a 5-0 loss to Bishop. The Rams had a great season, and finished with the best overall (15-7-1) and conference (9-4-1) records in school history.

Brain Forte defeated Reid Turner (6-0, 6-1). Sheppard Fowler defeated Silas Coley (6-1, 6-1). Blake Jansen defeated Daniel Soos (6-3, 6-4).
