The first round of the baseball, softball, and soccer NCHSAA playoffs kicked off on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. While the second round of tennis was played, as well as the final day of the golf championships. Results are as follows.

Baseball:

Forbush vs. Surry Central — The Falcons came away with a 12-2 victory over Surry Central. They will move on to the second round to face East Rutherford on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Starmount vs. Highland Tech — The Rams fell to Highland Tech, 7-3 on Tuesday night. It was an upset for the Rams as they were ranked sixth and Highland Tech was ranked 27th in the 1A playoffs. Highland moves on to the second round where they will face Bishop McGuinness.

Elkin vs. Roxboro Community — The Elks were the underdogs going into their game against Roxboro on Tuesday night, but they didn’t let that affect them. The Elks put on a show as they beat Roxboro 10-0 with the help of Will Altemueller and Tanner Edwards. Altemueller threw a 1-hitter, had five strikeouts, and three walks in five innings. Edwards hit an absolute bomb in the top of the fifth to make the score 10-0 and give the Elks a first round win. Elkin will face Uwharrie Charter Academy in Asheboro for the second round.

Softball:

Forbush vs. East Lincoln — The Falcons beat East Lincoln by a score of 13-3 on Tuesday night. They will face Maiden during the second round at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Forbush.

Starmount vs. Whiteville — The Rams ended their season on Wednesday night as they fell to Whiteville 13-0.

Elkin vs. Pine Lake Prep — Elkin softball beat Pine Lake Prep, 11-0 on Tuesday night. The Elks will have home field advantage in the second round as they take on Bessemer City. Game time is set for Friday at 5:30.

East Wilkes vs. South Stanly — The Cardinals beat South Stanly 8-7 on Tuesday night in the first round of state playoffs. They will move on to face Chatham Central in Bear Creek on Friday.

Soccer:

Forbush vs. North Wilkes — The Falcons beat North Wilkes 9-0 on Tuesday. They will play Salisbury on Thursday night at Forbush. (Results were not available by press deadline.)

Elkin vs. Swaim County — The Buckin’ Elks upset Swaim County 3-0 on Tuesday night. The Elks were ranked 21 while Swaim County was ranked 12. The Elks will meet cross-county rivals Starmount in the second round. Kick-off is set for Saturday at 7 p.m. The game will be held at Starmount.

East Wilkes vs. Pine Lake Prep — The Cardinals ended their 1A playoff run on Wednesday night as they fell to Pine Lake, 6-1.

Starmount vs. Albemarle — Starmount dominated Albemarle, 6-0 on Wednesday afternoon. The Rams will move on to the second round to face Elkin at 7 p.m. on Saturday.

Golf:

Forbush — The Falcons made it to the state championships for the fourth time in school history. They finished fifth, which is the best finish in school history. The Falcons ended their season with a record of 59-18-1. Individual results from states are as follows: M. Cranfill (T-26th), D. Ray (T-29th), C. Snyder (T-38th), C. Davis (T-51st), and L. Lineberry (T-51st).

Starmount — Although Starmount’s team didn’t make it to the 1A state championships, they had two individual players make it. Chris Fillingame tied for second with a score of 70-78—148, he was only six strokes behind first place. Starmount’s Carson Brown tied for 50th with a score of 89-86—175 (+33).

Elkin — Elkin’s golf team made it to states and placed sixth with a score of 341-332—673 (+105). Individual results include, T25 Noah Hill, Elkin 79-82—161 (+19), T33 Harrison Hall, Elkin 84-82—166 (+24), T41 Jack Turner, Elkin 87-82—169 (+27), 54 Beau Burgess, Elkin 91-86—177 (+35), and 74 Luke Anderson, Elkin 105-93—198 (+56).

East Wilkes — One player from East Wilkes made it to states this year. Jais Norman came in 32nd with a score of 86-79—165 (+23).

Tennis:

Forbush vs. West Stokes — Forbush fought to the end, but ended up falling 5-4 to West Stokes in the second round.

Elkin vs. Bishop McGuinness — Elkin came away with a 5-4 win over Bishop in the second round of the playoffs. They will face Pine Lake Prep on Tuesday for the third round.
