EAST BEND — When the Forbush Falcons soccer team wins, they win big. During the opening round of the NCHSAA State Playoffs, the number-one-seeded Falcons took on the number-32-seeded North Wilkes.

The Falcons got off to a great start as they scored the opening goal within the first minute. Anna Kathryn Kilby picked up the first goal of the night with an assist by Madison York.

Two minutes later, the Falcons put another goal on the board as Emily Marcincavage put her shot on frame from 20 yards out to hit the upper 90 and give the Falcons a 2-0 lead three minutes into the game.

The Falcons kept the majority of possession for the night, as North Wilkes tried to keep up with Forbush’s crisp passing skills. In the ninth minute, Michaela Stone scored the third goal of the night for Forbush. In the 16th minute, Madelyn Crews wanted to get in on the scoring action and put the ball in the back of the net for her first goal of the night and the Falcon’s fourth goal.

Crews would end the night with a hat trick as she scored in the 16th, 40th, and 53rd minute. Other goal scorers for the Falcons included Marcincavage (32nd minute), Madison York (48th minute), and Madisun Shore (62nd minute).

After the Falcons scored their ninth goal of the night, the game was called and the Falcons advanced to the second round. The Falcons will play their second round game on Thursday night, results were not available by deadline.
