NCHSAA playoff brackets and results released

Monday afternoon, the North Carolina High School Athletic Association released the brackets for the baseball, softball and soccer 2016 state playoffs. Tennis will start of the second round of playoffs this week, and golf will continue to its second day of action on Tuesday.

Baseball:

In the 2A West, Forbush High School came away with the #7 seed. The Falcons have home-field advantage as they will play #26 seeded Surry Central (12-10) on Tuesday night at Forbush.

In the 1A West, Starmount and Elkin both made the playoffs. Starmount (14-8) came away with the #6 seed and will face the #27 seed Highland Tech (10-12) on Tuesday night at Starmount. Elkin (14-8) came away with the #21 seed and will travel to Roxboro to take on #12 Roxboro Community (11-8) on Tuesday night.

Softball:

Last year, the Falcons softball team made it to the state championship before falling to South Granville. This year, the Lady Falcons (21-1) earned the #2 seed and will take on #31 East Lincoln (10-10) in the first round on Tuesday night.

In the 1A West, three local teams made the playoffs — East Wilkes, Elkin and Starmount. #23 East Wilkes (12-10) will travel to #10 South Stanly (17-5), while #31 Starmount (7-13) takes on #2 Whiteville (23-1). #6 seed Elkin (13-6) softball will play at home against #27 Pine Lake Prep (7-10) on Wednesday afternoon.

Soccer:

The Forbush Falcons soccer team also made it to the 2A championship last season before falling 2-1 to Carrboro in overtime. The Lady Falcons (21-0-1) start their playoff berth ranked #1 in the 2A West. They will have home-field advantage as they take on #32 North Wilkes (6-13-2) on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

In the 1A West, Starmount, Elkin and East Wilkes all made the playoffs. #20 East Wilkes (9-10-2) will travel to take on #13 Pine Lake Prep (13-4-1). #21 Elkin (8-9-1) will take on #12 Swain County (6-7-0) on Tuesday, while #5 Starmount (13-6-1) will play #28 Albemarle (3-13-2) on Wednesday afternoon.

Tennis:

The NCHSAA tennis tournament is in the second round of playoffs. In the Dual Team Playoffs, Elkin (15-2) will take on Bishop McGuinness (11-2). East Wilkes (14-6) took the first round win over Avery (2-11), and will advance to take on Mount Airy (19-2).

On the 2A side, wild card Forbush (10-5) took the win over West Stanly (14-3) to advance to the second round to take on first place West Stokes (12-2).

Golf:

The NCHSAA golf tournament kicked off on Monday morning. After round one of play, Elkin holds seventh place in the 1A Leaderboard with a score of 341. Individually, Noah Hill, Elkin 40-39—79 (+8) is tied for 20th place; Harrison Hall, Elkin 44-40—84 (+13) is tied for 37th; Jack Turner, Elkin 44-43—87 (+16) tied for 47th; Beau Burgess, Elkin 43-48—91 (+20) tied for 59th; and Luke Anderson, Elkin 55-50—105 (+34) is tied for 74th.

For East Wilkes, Jais Norman, East Wilkes 42-44—86 (+15) is tied for 43rd. Starmount’s Chris Fillingame is in second place after one day of play with 35-35—70 (-1), and Carson Brown, Starmount 45-44—89 (+18) is tied for 55th place.

In the 2A Leaderboard, Forbush is in sixth place with a score of 337. Individually, Carson Snyder, Forbush 37-41—78 (+6) is tied for 13th place; Dylan Ray, Forbush 42-41—83 (+11) is tied for 27th; Micah Cranfill, Forbush 40-44—84 (+12) is tied for 31st; Carson Davis, Forbush 50-42—92 (+20) is tied for 53rd; and Logan Lineberry, Forbush 52-40—92 (+20) is also tied for 53rd place.

Results for all games were not available by press deadline.
