The NCHSAA 1A Midwest Regionals took place this past Tuesday at the Cedarbrook Country Club in Elkin. The field included teams from Elkin, Alleghany, Bishop McGuinness, East Surry, Gray Stone Day and Mount Airy.
It was a competitive match, as the top three teams were only separated by six strokes. Mount Airy came away as the winner with a score of 313, while Elkin placed second with a score of 316. Alleghany rounded out the top three with a score of 319. The top three teams will advance to the state championships.
Along with the top three teams from the tournament, the top six individual players also will advance to the state championship. The individuals making it to the state championships are Starmount golfers Chris Fillingame and Carson Brown, East Wilkes’ Jais Norman, Bishop Mcguinness’ Kevin Sowinski and Regan Erhardt, and West Montgomery’s Aaron Richardson.
The state championship will take place on May 9 and 10 at the Longleaf Country Club in Southern Pines.
