EAST BEND — The Forbush Falcons ended their softball season on an outstanding note on Friday night. Not only were the fans celebrating their seniors, the Falcons beat North Surry 12-0 in five innings with the help of several players. Seniors for the Falcons included nine players and two managers.

“It was a great team win, and it was a special night for a special group of young ladies,” said Coach Jeremy Helton. “I couldn’t be happier for them to get this win on senior night.”

The Falcons started things off strong in the second inning as senior Sydney Miller stepped up to the plate and knocked the ball over the left field fence to bring in two runs for the Falcons. Miller’s home run lit a fire for the Falcons as they scored three more runs in the second inning courtesy of Marissa Lineberry (Kaylee Bullin), Allison Mitchell and Taylor Wooten.

“Everyone contributed tonight — we had people come off the bench to run bases, and people cheering for the team who don’t even step on the field,” said Helton “It means so much to our team to see that kind of chemistry.”

In the third inning the Falcons were right back at it as Miller once again hit a home run over the right field fence. Miller’s hit was right at the fence and it popped over courtesy of the ball hitting the North Surry right fielder’s glove. Miller brought in two more runs for the Falcons to make the score 7-0. The Falcons rounded out the third inning scoring three more runs — Madison Baity, Marissa Lineberry (Kaylee Bullin), and Jesse Hunter. The Falcons didn’t stop with the hits or the runs, as they went on to win the game 12-0 after five innings.

“I feel really good about our team’s energy and chemistry tonight. We have to come together this time of year and I felt good about that tonight. Sydney Miller had two huge home runs for us, Madison Baity had three hits,” said Helton. “Taylor Wooten had a few hits and so did the other seniors. It was a big night and an awesome thing to see the seniors excel on their senior night.”

The Falcons end their conference undefeated (10-0) and their regular season with a record of 21-1. The Falcons will host the WPAC tournament starting on Monday night. The schedule was not available by press deadline.

“This is a great group of girls and I’m going to miss them — not only for their talent, but because of the quality of girls they are,” said Helton. “Overall it was a great game and a great night of recognition for the seniors.”
