RONDA — After snapping a five-game losing streak on Monday night, the Starmount Rams were ready to get back into the swing of things against their conference opponents East Wilkes on Tuesday night. The Cardinals were looking to take a note from the Rams previous game, and snap their five-game losing streak with a win over the Rams. Unfortunately for the Cardinals, the Rams were still flying high off of their Monday night victory and took home a 7-3 win.
It didn’t take long for Starmount to get on the board. In the top of the second inning, the Rams put five of their first six batters on base. Patrick Usher had a hit to left field to come up with a single, Dalton Oliver earned a walk, Brock Mullins produced another single that brought courtesy runner, Ethan Barnes across the plate, and Curtis Craft hit another single to load the bases. With one out and the bases loaded, Braedon Macemore stepped up to the plate and made his hit count. With a hit that hopped over left fielder Deven Couch’s glove, Macemore brought home three runs for the Rams to make the score 4-0. It didn’t take long for the Rams to score again, as they made the score 5-0 in the top of the fourth with a hit by Peyton Mullins to bring Andrew Smythers across the plate. They scored another run in the top of the fifth inning to make the score 6-0, all of these runs scored before East Wilkes could get a player across home plate.
The runs for East Wilkes came in the bottom of the fifth when Carlos Aquino was subbed in. Aquino made it to first, stole second, and then advanced to third off of a hit by Zach Dunn. With Aquino on third, Jacob Chipman stepped up and brought Aquino in with an RBI to make the score 6-1. The final run for the inning was scored by Grant Bare who was brought in off a hit by Alec Anderson to make the score 6-2.
Starmount wasn’t done with their scoring opportunities as they notched another run in the top of the sixth off an RBI by Houston Nicks, to give the Rams a 7-2 lead. In the bottom of the seventh, East Wilkes tried to battle back but it was too little too late. Chipman scored off an RBI by Andrew Elmore to make the score 7-3, but it would be the last run East Wilkes would score. After seven complete innings, Starmount took home the 7-3 win and earned their second conference win this season.
With the win, Starmount advances to 4-8 overall and 2-3 in the conference. East Wilkes moves to 3-9 overall and 1-5 in the conference.
