Roten, Norman to leave school board

The filing period for those interested in running for three available Elkin City Board of Education seats closes Monday at noon, and two incumbents have announced they will not be seeing re-election.Three seats are up for grabs this year — two city district seats, held by Stewart Roten and James Freeman, and the west district seat, held by J. Foley Norman. Roten and Norman both said this week that they will not be filing for candidacy.

 

Yadkin County team wins Babe Ruth state championship

The Yadkin County 14-year-old all-stars won the 2014 Babe Ruth State Tournament.The team competed in the state tournament in Union County from July 17 to 23. The team finished the tournament by beating Union County for the championship on July 23. A journey home

ELKIN — Foothills Arts Council’s latest exhibit, “Winter South 2014,” will showcase the photography of an Elkin native recently returned to the area. Photographer Ben Erlandson grew up in Elkin and his photography in the exhibit chronicles his month-long trip from California back to Elkin. A gallery opening will be held on Aug. 8 with refreshments and a chance to hear from Erlandson about his journey home.
