Jonesville Elementary School capped off its three-day Dr. Seuss celebration Wednesday with “Wacky Tacky” day. On Monday students dressed up as their favorite Seuss book character. Trout and catfish sales are up
The value of North Carolina trout and catfish sales are up, according to the USDA. North Carolina’s commercial trout growers sold 3.43 million pounds of trout in 2012. Value of sales totaled $6.27 million, up 21 percent from the previous year. North Carolina ranks second in the nation in trout sales behind Idaho. Chicken house damaged in fire on Highway 268
A chicken house in Elkin was damaged in a fire Thursday morning. The fire was reported around 3:20 a.m. at 241 AZ Phillips Road off Highway 268. No one was injured. Crews arrived to a fully involved fire and remained at the scene for about 5 hours, fire officials said. The house was vacant, fire officials said. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
